Traveling alone is a trend on the rise: people from all over the world advocate for this experience, especially women. So, we have decided to give some tips to enjoy these solitary adventures on your own. There’s a world out there just waiting to be discovered!

Destination? The one you want!

Any destination can be a good one, keeping in mind to make your selection with common sense: of course, avoid unsafe countries or those with problems such as terrorism, etc.

As on any other trip, we should take several variables into consideration, such as our budget, length of travel, and ability to immerse ourselves in the local environment: getting around by public or hired transportation, knowledge of the local language or culture of the country and religion.

Tips and tricks to travelling alone

Planning where you will stay: adapting to your budget, you can go for traditional options or join the collaborative economy tendency and rent a room for the night. The second option may allow you the opportunity to get to know the local culture better. The collaborative economy may also be a good idea when it comes to meals. There are platforms such as Vizeat which are a fantastic way to meet locals and try the native cuisine.

Plan your budget, and also keep a stash for emergencies. Store your identification and travel documents in a safe place and always keep them with you.
Always have a pocket travel guide and map with you. That way, even if you find yourself without any Internet connection, you will be able to find your way.
It is important to know how to get around the area you are visiting. Look into the average taxi prices, metro and bus ticket costs, in addition to the routes you plan to take. And don’t be shy to trying alternative ways of moving around, such as Uber.

Need some inspiration?

You can find inspiration from women already on their journey. The network  Mujeres Viajeras defines itself as “a social network of women travelers around the world”. It is an interesting site, where more than 30,000 women share their travel experiences and give recommendations and tips for traveling alone.
